Hexagon Traffic (cut)

These short video clips are from experimental works Hexagon Traffic and Venetian Babies. The original videos were made exploring the idea of making video as another instrument in a musical composition, following it's structure and mood.

Venetian Babies (cut)

Both videos were made by filming an old TV of mine playing pre-recorded footage and digitally editing the clips together. The TV used was 17 years old an when you fiddled with the tuning knob it would suddenly explode with bright colours and other great visual distortions.

ABOUT ME

I studied BA(Hons) Graphic Arts and Design and BA(Hons) Contemporary Creative practice at Leeds Metropolitan University, England. I've had my conceptual artwork shown in exhibitions in the UK and Europe, illustrations published in zines and the web and have aided and collaborated in film, video and audio based art projects.

I have worked in the London College of Fashions' Digital Media Lab, taught at the University of the Arts London and East London based gallery Divus Unit 30, where I assisted with their PR communication, web-presence and internet marketing. I am currently a Web Designer / Creative at Baigent Digital, the sector leader in web design and digital consultancy to charities and not-for-profit organisations.

I have published essays on art and culture and wrote the first letter to be published in the new UK based WIRED magazine, where I hope to one day contribute design or write about digital/tech influenced art. Read some of my writing

KLEENAXE

Kleenaxe is my musical moniker. Electro beats under synthy melodies and throbbing basslines. It's been described (by me) as: "A blunderbus loaded with 0's and 1's shot at a scrolling Mario target as he's being hit by a passing green shell, missing him and smacking the guy who wrote the theme music to Knight Rider square in the face while he's in a French discoteque wearing a tuxedo T-shirt and wrap-around Back To The Future II sunglasses with his fists in the air punching the atmosphere to the rhythm of the boogy-dee beat."

QRCODE LINK

Scan this with your QRcode enabled cameraphone and it'll link you to this site. The possibilities for QRcode and geographical meta-tagging are really cool. Sites on the internet can be pointed to from a QRcode in a physical place, on a sign or stenciled on a wall. Packaging in supermarkets could point you to information on their website. Bloggers could promote their sites with QRgraffiti tags...

Update: It's all about Augmented Reality now. With Apple's iPhone 3.1 update comes the in-your-pocket capability to overlay site-specific information in real-time over live images from your iPhone 3GS.

Imagine. You're pressed for time rushing down a London street to get to a meeting/date/movie. You need to find the nearest tube station, but in your haste you ran down an alley and now you're lost. So, you whip out your augmented reality device, look throught the screen at the same alleyway, but now it's brimming with information. A Coke can on the street has a virtual tag attached to it informing you that it contains 1 trillion callories. Someone walks past and face recognition software tells you that their name is Scott Smith and conected to the their Facebook profile to find that you have two friends in common. Then you see a marker hovering in the sky, pointing down at the nearest tube station so you can start to head in that direction.

I'm waiting for Augmented Converstation. A portable device understands the content and context of what you're talking about and can offer definitions of difficult or jargony words, offer links to web pages that have been mentioned or are related to what your talking about and link you to other people who have had the same conversation.
